What do you typically expect as you walk into church on a Sunday? If you’re like me, you expect quality time with close friends, clear Bible teaching with hopefully a few good jokes, and worship music to help the truth of the Bible settle into your heart. If you were part of the church in Acts, however, your expectations may have been a little different.
Throughout Acts, we see five things happening as the church gathers:
Signs & wonders
Salvation of people far from God
Physical healing
Casting out demons
Suffering for the good of others
I find myself convicted, as I read through this list, that none of these things are possible on my own strength. Each of these five elements of “the Jesus stuff,” as John Wimber called it, are only possible through the power of the Holy Spirit.
I’m also encouraged - not every single member of the church has to be gifted in all five of these areas. We can each ask God to show us our portion in this list - to show us what he wants to do in and around us.
There are things that God won’t do until we ask! So take time to ask him to work, and praise him for the ways that he is already at work. The Jesus stuff doesn’t happen on our own power - we need the Holy Spirit to empower us. Praise God - he has given us his Spirit to enable us both to will and to work toward his good purpose!

Lovewell Colfax: Stock Our Shelves | March Resource Drive
Help us meet the practical needs of our unhoused neighbors by stocking the Lovewell Store! Lovewell members will be able to purchase these items with points they earn by attending events and classes. To help stock the store, you can purchase items from our Amazon wish list, and we are also collecting men’s and women’s new/gently used clothing, shoes, and shelf-stable food. Bring donations to the lobby every Sunday in March!
